Fresno is located in the central part of the State California in the San Joaquin Valley. Agriculture is by far the largest industry. In and near Fresno there are more than 67,000 students attending various higher education schools. The Community Regional Medical Center offers the only accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program in Fresno in 2018. The sonography program offers classroom and clinical training on-site. The program has four different tracks including general sonography track, adult cardiac track, pediatric cardiac track and vascular track. It has 20 to 24 total program slots, with a varying number available at each program start. In addition, the Community Regional Medical Center offers one of the only CAAHEP-accredited Advanced Cardiac Sonography Programs in the country. This advanced program qualifies graduates to take the CCI Advanced Cardiac Sonographer examination.
CAAHEP and ARDMS
Accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs means the ultrasound program ensures students get the training needed to earn registration through the ARDMS. Registered sonography professionals are the first choice of employers and have the greatest number of job opportunities. Sonography graduates are encouraged to take the following ARDMS certification exams to get certified:
- Pass the Abdomen (AB) exam and the Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) exam: become the Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS)
- Pass the Echocardiography exam: become the Echocardiography Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS)
- Pass the Vascular Technology (VT) exam: become the Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT)
