Become a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer in Chicago, Illinois

Almost 24 percent of Illinois allied health programs are in Chicago, and over 30 percent of the city population has a Bachelor’s degree or higher. Students who want to attend an ultrasound technology program in 2017 that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) in Chicago currently have two choices: Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Rush University. The Northwestern Memorial School of Diagnostic Medical Sonography offers an 18-month certificate program that begins each July. The program began with 6 newly-admitted students in 2014. The program at Rush University is a vascular sonography bachelor degree program that takes 5 semesters to complete and accepts approximately 14 new sonography students annually. Upon graduation from an accredited sonography school, students are allowed to sit for the ARDMS exams to become certified sonographers.
