Located in the Mohave Desert, the climate of Las Vegas, Nevada is one of its attractions for those who enjoy warm weather. It is an exciting city filled with entertainment and cultural attractions. They include the Classic Car Museum, Springs Preserve, the Liberace Museum, and a host of stage shows. The health care industry in Nevada is thriving, and Las Vegas has seen impressive growth over the last five years in its medical facilities and in the number of practicing physicians. As more people join the ranks of the health insured, ultrasound technicians in NV can expect to see the growth in job opportunities continuing into 2017 and later.

Sonography Education in Las Vegas, Nevada

Over 37,000 full-time students attend one of the many universities and colleges in Las Vegas. The University of Nevada-Las Vegas and the College of Southern Nevada are the two largest. There is one Diagnostic Medical Sonography program accredited by CAAHEP, and it is located at the College of Southern Nevada. The available programs can be completed in six semesters. The school notes that they are “limited entry programs” which means there is a small number of seats available.

It is advisable to apply well in advance of the desired program start date. However, attending a CAAHEP accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program is recommended because the program is designed to fully prepare students to pass the ARDMS exams for credentialing. ARDMS registration has become a pre-employment requirement for many medical facilities and physician offices.
